Boone Township Women Club (Wright County, Iowa)

 Organization

Biography

The Boone Township Women's Club began on November 1, 1911 when four women decided to organize a club 'for the social and intellectual benefit' of the ladies of Boone and the vicinity. The club's second meeting, two weeks later, attracted three more ladies. Officers were elected and it was decided to meet every two weeks. Dues were set at twenty-five cents per year, with a one cent fine per absence. By the third meeting the club had grown to ten members and the first program of study was approved: famous women. The fourth meeting was well attended and the club officially adopted the name Boone Township Women's Club. The club celebrated its eighty-fifth anniversary in 1996, and was still meeting regularly in 2002.
