Biography

The Young Women´s Resource Center (Des Moines, Iowa) opened in January 1978 and became a United Way Agency in 1980. The organization´s mission is to enlighten, educate, and empower young women in the Greater Des Moines area by providing free, voluntary, and confidential counseling services from a feminist point of view. The Young Women´s Resource Center (YWRC) offers a variety of programs, including "It Takes Two," a pregnancy prevention and sexual education program emphasizing the importance of both female and male responsibility; "Problem Solving," a counseling program for individuals or groups that assists with problems such as sexual abuse, dating violence, and crisis intervention; and "Young Moms," a program that offers education and support for pregnant and parenting women between the ages of 13 and 21. The YWRC also participates in community education through speaking engagements and workshops.
