Biography

Annabelle Winegarden Bowman was a farm wife born in Iowa in 1919. She married at a young age after her father lost his land during the Great Depression. She had four sons with her husband, Burdette, including Wayne, Bonnie Love’s husband. An avid music and travel enthusiast, she passed away in 2005.

Kathryn Lyman Love was born in 1909 and grew up in Fonda, Iowa. She hoped to go to college, but was forced by the depression to opt for a semester of business school, after which she worked as a typist. She married Raymond Love in 1933, and became a homemaker. The couple had one child, Bonnie, born in 1946. During World War II, Kathryn worked in an ordinance plant near Ankeny, Iowa, an experience she wrote about for The Des Moines Register after she was widowed. A filmmaking hobbyist, she recorded much of her 48th Street neighborhood, as well as family vacations with Ray and Bonnie. Kathryn Love died in 1995.
