This poem, the first done in English by Lalou, was written with a conventional calligraphic style on the front of the series of the folded paper that formed four unbound pages. In addition, parts of the poem were written in a highly experimental style with vertical elongation and personal flourishes added to the letters. This calligraphic book on Fabiano papers was commissioned by Marvin Sackner for Ruth as a 63rd birthday present. It recounts the Biblical love story of Ruth, her mother-in-law Naomi and her son Boaz, and Naomi's instructions to Ruth on how to court Boaz. Lalou wrote the story English using black ink lettering at the bottom of nine pages. These pages and four additional pages without Biblical text are decorated with calligraphic renderings of the Hebrew names Ruth, Naomi and Boaz. Other pages are rendered with drawings of alephs, Hebrew letters, stripes of inked lines, and text from the Book of Ruth in English and Hebrew.
