Scope and Contents

This exhibition was curated by Giovanni Fontana. It also included sound poetry recordings curated by John Giorno, Paul Vangelista, Charles Amirkhanian, and J.Wellman. The front cover was done by Karl Kempton. Although the title of this exhibition indicates that it featured the work of 55 American poets, several are of different nationalities, e.g., Canadian, French, British and German. The catalogue is identical to the catalogue for the Frosinone exhibition with the same title except for a 14 page insert printed on Kraft paper. The latter consists of brief essays by Minarelli, Giorno, Higgins, Wendt, Kostelanetz as well as statements by Helmes, Kempton, Essary, Kucharz, and Prost. The topics included text sound pieces by Americans, the Dial-A-Poem poets, intermedia, computer manipulations, holography, and personal statements about the artist's own work. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
