This book is a masterpiece of collaboration between an artist and an avant garde publisher-printer who created one of the most beautiful artist books of the twentieth century. The original is signicantly larger than this facsimile that was also sponsored by the Iliazd club. [Werner Spies]. The Sackner Archive holds "Maximiliana" published in 1964 in collaboration with Iliazd. Influenced by a little known astronomer, Ernst Tempel, the work is acknowledged to be Max Ernst's graphic masterpiece. Schamoni subsequently made a film documenting the making of "Maximiliana" which was entitled "The Illegal Practice of Astronomy."
