The Emblem poem of the 16th and 17th century consisted of motto, image and verse. In the classification system utilized by the Sackner Archive, emblem poems are designated Picture Poems and consist of title (motto), image and verse on the same page, i.e., a single poem which if presented as facing pages collection of poems and poetry in a book would be designated an Illustrated Book.
