Biography

Sally Wiesenfeld was born in Chicago to Morris and Minnie Burle on Dec. 22, 1923. She married Julius Wiesenfeld on Sept. 27, 1947. The couple lived in Chicago until 1963 when Julius joined the faculty at UNI; they then moved to Cedar Falls. A longtime activist in the peace movement, Sally joined Another Mother for Peace after hearing Peg Mullen, a La Porte City woman, speak out about her son's death in Vietnam. Wiesenfeld introduced herself to Mullen and volunteered to help her. Wiesenfeld provided support for Mullen in many ways, from helping with her housework to writing letters. Wiesenfeld also helped organize information tables in shopping malls and at the 1971 Waterloo Cattle Congress. Wiesenfeld's husband passed away in 1979, and she moved to Iowa City in 1988. Sally Wiesenfeld passed away in 2017.
