Biography

Eleanor Ruth Eyestone Trummel was born October 31, 1915 to Winn Wilbur and Edna Valentine Godfrey Eyestone in Washington County, Iowa. Before their marriage, Eleanor Eyestone's parents were both rural schoolteachers. After they married, her father became a farmer and later a carpenter, while her mother was a homemaker. During her first two years of school, Eleanor Eyestone was not well, so her mother taught her at home. She attended high school for three years at Washington, Iowa before graduating from Fairfield High School in 1933. Eyestone went on to attend Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) and received her B.S. in Home Economics Education in 1940.

Eleanor Eyestone taught for one year at Montrose High School in Montrose, Iowa. During World War II, Eyestone worked with the Iowa State College Extension Service as a home demonstration agent in Hancock and Winnebago counties. On August 5, 1942, she married John Franklin Merle Trummel. They raised four children: Elizabeth Anne, Barbara Gail, Bruce Allen, and Keith Eldon. Her husband died January 21, 2004.
