Biography

Born in 1951 in Des Moines, Marti Anderson was raised partly in Des Moines and attended St. Joseph Academy; the family also resided in Minnesota and California for parts of her childhood. Anderson received a bachelors degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa and a masters in social work from the University of Iowa. She has worked for the Crime Victim Assistance Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s office, the victim services and family violence center of Polk County, and Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. Anderson later ran for the Iowa legislature as a Democrat, serving in the Iowa House from 2013-2023 and representing District 36 (parts of Des Moines).
