Biography
Carrie Henderson Lindahl was born in northern Linn County, Iowa, May 17, 1887, the fifth of eleven children of farmers Thomas and Minnie Willis Henderson. Carrie Henderson helped with child raising, farming, and household chores. She attended Coggon High School, and in 1904 was the first among her siblings to graduate from high school. She remained on the family farm after graduating, becoming proficient on the piano. She married high school classmate Frank Lindahl on June 29, 1909 and moved into town. She joined the Coggon Christian Church shortly after marriage and was an active member and church organist for many years. She was severely ill after delivering a stillborn daughter and had no further children. Instead, the Lindahls took an active part in raising the Henderson nieces and nephews. Her niece Frances Hill boarded with her while attending high school.
She and her husband Frank Lindahl clerked in the Coggon grocery store before joining the staff of Coggon State Bank. In 1927, Carrie Lindahl handled the billing for the Coggon Municipal Water System. When the Coggon bank failed in 1932, they moved to Marion, where Frank Lindahl worked for the Commercial Bank. Three years later he found employment at the North Linn Savings Bank in Walker. In 1946, the Lindahls organized the Walker State Bank where Carrie Lindahl worked for many years. After the death of her husband in 1961, Carrie Lindahl returned to Coggon and lived near her sister. She died in a care facility in 1977. Additional biographical information is located in the biographical information folder and in the "Henderson Family History" by Frances Graham.
