Biography
Liz Mathis was born in 1958 in rural DeWitt, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa, she became a reporter and anchor for KWWL in Waterloo and KCRG in Cedar Rapids. She has also taught media courses at Wartburg College. In 2011, Mathis won a special election to represent District 18 (parts of Cedar Rapids and Linn County) in the Iowa Senate, winning reelection to the newly drawn District 34 in 2012 and serving that district from 2013-2023. In 2022, she ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in Iowa’s second district.
