Biography

Sharon Steckman was born in 1947 in Chicago and grew up in Colorado and Nebraska. She earned a bachelors degree from Iowa State and a masters from Morningside College, both in the field of education. She taught in Mason City school for over 30 years, also serving as president of the local teachers’ union. In 2008, she ran for the Iowa House as a Democrat and won, representing Mason City and parts of Cerro Gordo county (District 13 from 2009-2013, District 53 from 2013-2023, and District 59 beginning in 2023).
