Biography
Linda Upmeyer was born in Mason City, Iowa in 1953. After earning degrees from North Iowa Area Community College, the University of Iowa, and Drake University, she became a cardiology nurse practitioner. A Republican, she served in the Iowa House for almost 20 years, representing District 12 from 2003-2013 (Franklin and parts of Cerro Gordo and Hancock counties) and District 54 from 2013-2021 (Franklin and parts of Cerro Gordo and Butler counties). In 2016, Upmeyer became the first woman to serve as speaker of the Iowa House, a position she held until 2020. She served as national chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in 2014.
