Biography

Karen Kolbe Goodenow, an educator, was born on January 26, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa, and raised in Lakeview, Iowa. She received her B.S. degree from Drake University. An elementary school teacher, she served on numerous boards and task forces at the local, state, and national level. Karen Goodenow lived in Wall Lake, Iowa, for twenty five years before moving to Okoboji.

Goodenow served on the Wall Lake School Board, the Iowa State Board of Education, and the Board of the National State Boards of Education. She also served as a site evaluator in 1989 for the United States Department of Education for the "Secondary School Recognition Program." Goodenow is a member of the Drake Board of Governors and the Iowa Public Television Foundation Board. She was appointed by Governor Terry Branstad to the Iowa International Development Foundation, and served from 1990 to 1995. She is also active in Dickinson County Republican Women.
