Biography

June Parker Goldman is a Japanese-American woman from Forest City, Iowa. She was educated in Kobe, Japan, and in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where she lived with her grandparents during World War II. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1947.

Goldman was a member of the Know Your Neighbor Panel in Des Moines. The Know Your Neighbor Panel consisted of 13 women, mostly housewives, of different races, religions, and beliefs. The goal of the Panel was to "seek out and fight--even in themselves--the prejudice that destroys brotherhood." The Panel has received several awards including the first female Des Moines Ambassadors, the Americanism Award, and an award for distinguished public service in the field of adult education.
