Biography

Christine Hanson Anderson was born and raised in Appanoose County near Moulton, Iowa. She was an active 4-H member while a schoolgirl and graduated from high school in 1930. She attended one term at Iowa State Teachers' College (now the University of Northern Iowa) and taught for two years before marrying Appanoose County farmer Doyle Anderson. They raised their children, Sally (who died at age two), Anne, and James, at 'Sandridge Farm.'

Christine Anderson was a 4-H leader while her children were young and served as chairman of the county 4-H. She taught rural schools for five years, was chairman of the Appanoose County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and was also a member of the State Extension Advisory committee. In 1957 she received both the 4-H Alumni Award and the Iowa Master Farm Homemaker Award. She served twelve years on the County Board of Education during the consolidation conflicts of the 1950s. Her husband was also active on several county boards and both were active members of the Christian Church in Moulton. They lived at Sandridge Farm until his death in 1998, when Christine Anderson moved to Oskaloosa.
