Biography

Blossom Henton Baker was born in Nebraska on October 4, 1908, to Glenn and Mollie Henton. She grew up in Wakefield, Nebraska. Baker attended an Episcopalian girls’ preparatory school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before becoming a student at Morningside College in Sioux City. She went on to study French and Spanish at the University of Iowa. In 1933 she married Melvin Baker. They moved to Humboldt, Iowa for Melvin’s law career. There, Blossom Baker participated in many social organizations, such as P.E.O and a church group called the Keybearers, and managed the family budget.
