Biography
Anna Marie Mitchell was born in Palo Alto County, Iowa in 1925. As a teenager she began training to become a missionary. She then attended Waldorf College and earned a two-year degree. In 1950, she sailed to Japan to begin an initial seven year commitment as a missionary. Mitchell served in Japan until 1982, when she returned to the United States in order to care for her parents, Albert and Belvina Mitchell. During her time in Japan, Mitchell learned the Japanese language, served in several Lutheran churches, and taught the children of other missionaries.
