Book Walk Series in the Backwoods / Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson., 1978
Nineteen handmade books, drawings and objects are placed randomly within the leather formed feet. the bottom of the feet are hand lettered" Souls that walk Souls that talk." The project was started in 1979; the drawings are dated 1983. The theme of the work is the daily rural life of the Afro-American community including the papermakers at a community center, animal sketches, people and a leather object shaped like Noah's ark. Robinson, who received a MacArthur prize, had a major retrospective exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum 2006. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
Cries of Poindexter Village, 1980
The text appears to be an autobiographical account of the artist's youth. All leather work, including tanning, was done by the artist. Aminah Robinson (1940-2015) has also signed some of the books in this production with her given name, Brenda Lynn Robinson. Robinson, who received a MacArthur prize, had a major retrospective exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum 2006. This piece was in the exhibition. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

The Sackner Archive lent "Cries of Poindexter Village" to this exhibition pictured as plate 90. In the catalogue, Robinson describes this work as "a two-volume book I made for my son, Syndey. One volume is 'Schoolyard,' and the other is 'Bethlehem Journey,' a hinged book with a large cloth painting inside. Both volumes are about the voices of the children coming up in Poindexter and the characters who lived there and some of their stories." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
