Biography

Debbie Hoover is a fanzine collector and SF fan residing in Salem, Oregon. She first became interested in science fiction and real-life space travel in 1966, at the age of 12. 1966 was a pivotal year for Hoover, in that it saw the broadcast both of the early Apollo missions and of the seminal television show Star Trek - both these events helped fuel Hoover's love for science fiction and the possibilities inherent in the human conquest of outer space.

Hoover attended her first SF convention in Seattle in 1974. She was amazed and awestruck by her initial interaction with a community of like-minded fans, and it was this convention that she also first encountered fanzines. The zines she purchased that day - Alternative Universe, Interphase, and Warped Space - were the beginning of her 30-year fanzine collecting career.
