Biography

George Walter Grill attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, graduating in 1911. During college vacations, as indicated by his 1909 contract, he worked on the Chautauqua circuit as a crew man. Beginning in 1911, Grill worked for three different bureaus as an advance man during the regular season: Vawter-Redpath in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1911-1914; Alkahest Lyceum System in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1914-1915 season; Coit-Alber from December 1915-1917. According to correspondence in the collection, Grill was married and eventually the father of two children.
