Biography

Bourjaily was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 7, 1922, son of Monte Ferris and Barbarra (Webb) Bourjaily. He married Bettina Yensen in 1946. Children are Philip and Robin. He and Bettina divorced in 1985 and he married Yasmin Mogul. During World War II he served two years in the army, which was to play a role in his writing. Bourjaily was Professor at the University of Arizona. He was co-founder and editor of Dicsovery. He served on the faculty of the University of Iowa's Writers Workshop from 1958-1980. He died in Greenbrae, California on August 31, 2010.
