The collection is organized by the following series: manuscripts/writings, correspondence, fanzine, research, and Kirby McCauley materials. The manuscript/writings series contains Tierney's short stories and book manuscripts, along with some short articles written by Tierney and other colleagus. Correspondence has letters going back and forth between friends, colleagues, and agents. The Kirby McCauley Materials series contains contracts and other business correspondence between McCauley and other authors. These materials were retained in the collection because Tierney and McCauley were close friends and business partners throughout out their careers. At one point, McCauley lived with Tierney in Mason City, Iowa where these papers were presumably left by McCauley. These contracts document a portion of Kirby McCauly's business.
