Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection of magic lantern slides includes the slides themselves as well as their original early 20th century packaging.
The collection's lantern slides depict event from and the history of the Bible, specifically relating to the Acts of Paul, as well as images of mountains and bodies of water across the continental United States. These came from larger, wooden boxes created for storing lantern slides. Contained in Eastman Kodak paper boxes are slides depicting contemporaty life in 20th century Michigan,the Breed's travels to Italy, Greece, and Damascus, and pottery from around the world. Many of the slides are hand colored.
All slides have been re-housed, and the original packaging has been kept in this collection under its own series. Photos of the slides in their original housing were printed and are stored with the collection for context.
