Includes an interesting collection of his original recipes, natural remedies and chemical compositions for various concoctions including elixirs, syrups, eau de cologne and herbal teas, among more. There are scattered drink recipes including those for beer and liquors, and notes on chemical compositions of arsenic and morphine. Rapin also includes a short recipe for strawberry jam which incorporates red wine in its reduction, a thoroughly French method.
Physical Description
Manuscript on unruled notebook paper, written in brown ink, in French [Paris:] 1832-1833. Handwritten pagination to 114. 75 numbered pages of text, 8 additional unnumbered pages of text, and text on rear pastedown. Text includes hand drawn illustrations including one tipped in on front pastedown of chemical equipment. The text begins with: "Albert Rapin 1832 le 10 Janvier.", a French student. Three contemporary loose slips included. Also includes a modern translation (on a loose leaf yellow lined paper) of the tipped in illustration.
Original green paper boards, signed by Albert Rapin and dated 1833 on shield shaped pasted paper on front cover, partly torn, edges speckled blue.
