It is very significant that among the handwritten books with preprinted chapter headings and pages, this is the first one listing as a chapter "vegetable and potato dishes," showing the growing importance of the potato toward the end of the 19th century.

From the 272 pages, some 69 are written in a beautiful even hand. It has several ice cream recipes and a recipe for the celebrated German ice cream concoction "Furst Puchler." On the very end of the book, in a much later hand, are a few recipes penciled in English.
