Scope and Contents

The Carl Weeks file is composed of business correspondence, notes, merchandising and sales promotion ideas, articles, speeches, and advertisements. Much of the business correspondence and articles concerns either Mr. Weeks's refusal to sell to firms who disregard his suggested resale prices, or his backing of the fair trade laws. Over half of the entries are merchandising and sales promotion ideas, including advertisements for the mass media. The remaining papers consist of speech notes and speeches that Mr. Weeks gave throughout the United States. This finding aid list boxes that contain items with a specific numbering system. These materials relate to one or more subjects or people, and are indexed in the old finding aid which will be linked to this site at a later date. The old finding aid is comprised of an alphabetical index of the correspondents with accompanying item numbers. The correspondence is arranged chronologically in the first eight folders (1922-1957) and topically in the remaining seventeen folders. There are 937 entries in the four boxes. 2 linear ft. + seven scrapbooks: scrapbooks 1-4 are with the collection; scrapbooks 5-7 are at 5:20:9.
