This collection is broken into three series. The General series covers petitioners' materials, land proposals and appraisals, and other similar miscellanous materials. The Notes by Surveyors series contains various soil condition surveys, reports on Indigenous claims to land ("Indian Claims"), and correspondence regarding said Indigenous claims. The Land Records Ledger Books series contains extensive notes on Iowa counties and Indigenous lands ("Iowa Indians"), including acrage, grantor information, and location. Information on how the data is sorted in each ledger will be listed in the notes section of each file or in the file name itself. The term "Indian" is used in all three series to descirbe Indigenous peoples, following the titles used in the collections materials.
