Scope and Contents
The Goldman Band Collection consists of approximately 4,000 compositions for band, both manuscript and published, as well as correspondence, radio scripts, concert programs, and business papers. Richard Franko Goldman donated 2,200 scores to the University of Iowa School of Music in 1967, and the remaining 1,776 scores and other business documents were transferred to the School following Mr. Goldman’s death. The collection was stored for many years in the Clapp Recital Hall orchestra pit, but was moved to the University of Iowa Special Collections after 1980. Management of the collection was transferred from the School of Music to the University of Iowa Libraries in 2017.

There are several addenda, largely due to scores that were never re-filed into their original containers after being used or loaned.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
A portion of this collection was donated to the University of Iowa School of Music in the name of the University Library in 1967 by Richard Franko Goldman. The remainder of the collection was transferred to the School of Music at the time of Mr. Goldman’s death in 1979. The collection was transferred from the School of Music to the University of Iowa Special Collections in 2017.
