Emlin McClain Papers
Scope and Contents
The Emlin McClain Collection consists of three series. The Diaries series that contains 10 volumes of diaries spanning from 1869 to 1908. The Correspondence series contains letters and newspaper clippings from 1875 to 1913. The Speeches series contains manuscripts of 24 speeches by Emlin McClain related to his interest in painting spanning from 1890 to 1919, including a copy of the Iowa Law Bulletin from November 1915.

Language of Materials
Lawyer, judge, and professor. Personal and business correspondence, diaries, and speeches on painting. Most of the material dates before 1880, while McClain was a law student at the University of Iowa.
