Scope and Contents

The collection, also known as Warren African Slide and Videotape Collection, includes 95 videos and 3,738 slides. The videos are arranged in the order in which they appear in the PDF catalog. The slides are organized by subject areas created by Professor Warren. The 2006 addendum is a file of oversized material, including illustrations and explanations for designs on Adinkra cloth, Akan drums and stools, and maps of the city of Techiman in 1961 and 1971.

Abstract

Slides and video tapes made by an Africanist scholar in West Africa, primarily Ghana and Nigeria, recording daily life, medicine, palm oil production, chiefs and elders, women's activities, religion, house construction, and other activities.

Method of Acquisition

The Warren Collection was donated to the University of Iowa Libraries in 1998 by Mariam and Medina Warren, wife and daughter, respectively, of the late Professor Dennis Michael Warren.
