Scope and Contents

A collection of bills, acts, reports, and other documents produced by the government of the Confederate States of America from 1861 -- 1864. The documents are organized into categories established by T. Michael Parrish and Robert M. Willingham, Jr. in their Confederate Imprints: A Bibliography (Austin, Texas: Jenkins Publishing Co. and Ketonah, New York: Gary A. Foster, 1980). Only two items in this collection are not described in the bibliography; these are unnumbered and located at the end of the box contents list.

Parrish and Willingham provide a detailed citation for each item they describe. Consequently the items listed here are more briefly described; readers are advised to consult the bibliography for full citations. The bracketed number that begins each entry is the Parrish/Willingham number.

The Iowa copy of the bibliography is held in the General Reference Collection of the University of Iowa Libraries (call number: Main Reference Collection Z1242.5 P37 1980). It has been marked to indicate the holdings in this collection: "IaU" indicates that a copy of the document is present here.
