Iowa Democratic Conference 1968-early 1970's   The last meeting of the state board was at People's Church in Cedar Rapids in the early 1970's. Smith got together the membership lists of all the chapters, gave them to the Regional Director of Xerox, who made copies of them to give to all board members present at that last meeting, which was not planned as such. It has been suggested that they became the McGovern Presidential Campaign contact lists. These papers include Local IDC Chapter Papers, IDC State Governing Body Papers, and IDC Annual Convention Papers   LINN COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CENTRAL COMMITTEE 1968-2003. These papers include By-Laws, Constitution, monthly meeting minutes, and membership list about every two years   LINN COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CAUCUS-CONVENTION PROCESS FOR EVEN YEARS 1968-2002. These papers include records for precinct caucuses, papers related to setting up precinct caucuses, papers related to platform planks submitted to precinct caucuses, reports of who was elected from precinct caucuses to the Central Committee and Committee on Committees, Platform Committee to the County Convention. (Smith served as Chair in about 1972).   LINN COUNTY CONVENTIONS. These include records for the Committee on Rules and/or Nominations for the County Convention. Minutes of the county convention: Smith served as Secretary of a fair number of county conventions in the 1970's; and indications of who was elected to go to the District and State Conventions; of 1 st or 2nd District Conventions for even numbered years 1968 to 2002. Linn county was not always in the same numbered Congressional District.   DISTRICT CONVENTIONS 1972-2002   Includes papers of the Committee on Rules and/or Nomination. Smith often served as the Secretary of that Committee. This segment also includes minutes of the District Convention. Smith served as Secretary of District Conventions in about 1974, 1976, 1978   STATE CONVENTIONS 1974-2002   Includes papers of the Committee on Rules and/or Nomination. Smith often served as the Secretary of that Committee. Also includes minutes of the State Conventions: Smith served as Secretary of State Conventions in 1974, 1976, and 1978; working papers/minutes for State Level Constitutional Review/Reform; By-Laws in about 197374, 1976, 1978, etc.; also for about 1994 to 1996. Smith often served as secretary to such constitution review committees in the 1970's; working papers/minutes for a Special Committee on the Platform Process in 1974-1975; about 7 members. Smith served as the secretary of that committee which was created at his initiative by the 1974 State Convention; documents pertaining to Smith's and other people's efforts to develop what became the Priority Voting System of voting on Platform Planks at the State Conventions of 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002. There may be a few papers relating to a trial run of that process in Mahaska County in 1996.
