Scope and Contents

The William Clarence Power, Jr. Papers date from 1910 to 2007 and span .25 linear feet. The collection consists of clippings, photographs, memorabilia, and correspondence reflecting Power's academic and professional career. The collection also includes an album created by William C. Power, Jr.'s mother, Lavina McKeehan Power. The majority of the album includes photographs of the Power family taken by William Clarence Power, Sr. The photographs in the back of the album consist of William C. Power, Jr.'s student life in the School of Pharmacy at the State University of Iowa.

Biographical / Historical

A native of Newton, Iowa, William Clarence Power, Jr. graduated from the State University of Iowa School of Pharmacy in 1933. Power was member of the last class to be awarded a three-year certificate in pharmacy. He worked as a registered pharmacist in the state until 1935 when he joined Eli Lilly International Corporation as a salesman in Waterloo, Iowa. Beginning in 1975, Power's final position in the corporation was as the assistant to the president. Power also served on the Lilly International board of directors and was a member of the Rho Chi pharmacy honor society. Power was vice president of the University of Iowa Foundation's executive committee and a member of the university's Presidents Club. William Clarence Power, Jr. passed away on December 02, 1979.
