Scope and Contents

This collection includes a scrapbook of photographs and clippings created during the freshman year of Janet Pease while living in Burge Hall in 1962. Ms. Pease has also preserved course notes of two history classes and correspondence to a friend during her graduate years and the beginning of her teaching career.

Biographical Note

Janet Kathleen Pease, from Moline, Illinois, graduated from the University of Iowa with her B. A. in political science in June 1966 and M. A. in American history in June 1968. Her thesis was “The election of 1860 in Iowa: the Breckinridge campaign.” As an undergraduate, Pease was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal as the outstanding American history student on campus. She joined the Alpha Delta Pi honorary scholastic society in March 1963, as well as a membership in Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honorary fraternity. She served as secretary of the Union Board in 1965. When she became a graduate student in fall 1966, she held concurrently a research assistantship in political science. Following graduation in 1968, Pease began a forty-year teaching career of history at Arvada West High School in Arvada, Colorado, where she continues to be involved in the school’s activities since her retirement in 2008.
