Biographical / Historical
Darrell D. Wyrick served as the first president of the University of Iowa Foundation from January 1962 until mid-1998. Mr. Wyrick retired in mid-1999, after guiding many fundraising campaigns, such as to build the first UI Museum of Art and to restore Old Capitol.
Wyrick was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on October 4, 1933. In high school, he was elected 1951 senior class president and was valedictorian of his class. Wyrick earned the B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering at the University of Iowa. He married Shirley Lee Brown, of Altoona, Iowa, in February 1956, and the couple had three children, Craig, Anne and Lane.
Darrell Wyrick died May 14, 2015.
