Method of Acquisition
Records of the University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders marching band have been transferred to the University Archives from various donors since about 1965. Guide posted to the Internet March 2008 and revised in July-August 2010.

Processing Information
When the existing collection was reprocessed the folder "Public Relations -Foreign Tour 1960" was found to be empty. There was no record of this folder in the existing finding aid so the folder was removed.
Processing Information
5 feet of paper materials removed during reprocessing in 2023. These materials included financial / budgetary information and receipts, duplicate materials, insurance policies, and mass-produced travel brochures. Additionally, green fabric highlander poster, cardboard cutout of male highlander, base for an unknown second place grade IV award, and partial pen holder were removed to be disposed of according to donor wishes. Plaque, plate, flag, statue, medal, duplicate patches and base of savings bond award were removed to be returned to donor.

- Materials such as financial / budgetary information and receipts, duplicate materials, insurance policies, newspaper clippings unrelated to the Scottish Highlanders, and mass-produced travel brochures. Ephemera and award material that fell outside of the collection scope or didn't have retention value were also removed. Two books about presidential inaugurations in which the Highlanders participated but were not mentioned in the book were removed.
