The Hedy Hustedde papers date from 1879 to 2018 and measure 14.4 linear feet in 37 boxes. The papers are arranged in eight series: Biographical, Correspondence, Diary, Education, Volunteer Activities, Professional, Artifacts, and Audio/Visual. Most of the collection is about Hustedde’s career as a librarian at the Bettendorf Public Library in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The Biographical series (1879-1990) contains childhood writings by Hustedde, including "Bulletin Girls," documenting her work with a friend to produce weekly bulletins for the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo. Also included are her Brownie friendship book from the late 1950s, and her Girl Scout autograph book, and an 1879 autograph book containing messages written to both Hustedde and Eva A. Bullis, no relation.

The Correspondence series (1975-2010) contains letters by Hustedde to her parents while she was living in Germany from 1978 to 1982 and letters from Hustedde to her mother-in-law, Anna, after the death of Anna's husband William Hustedde in 1992.

The Diaries (1961-2003) were written by Hustedde over a forty-year period, beginning when she was eleven years old.

The Education series (1958-1988) is grouped into sub-series by the academic institutions Hustedde attended: Grade School, High School, University of Northern Iowa, Des Moines Community College, and Marycrest College. This subseries includes Hustedde’s class notes, class projects, and yearbooks. The Des Moines Community College sub-series only contains a small amount of information from a seminar about the American poet Phillis Wheatley. The Marycrest College sub-series also contains her notes on classes, most focusing on literature and education.

Volunteer Activities series (1973-2015) includes material from a Christian Experience Weekend, a Women’s Community Leadership Institute project, work with the State Commission on the Status of Women, and the accession records for St. Paul the Apostle Church Catholic religious retreat program that originated in the Diocese of Dubuque, Iowa.

The Professional series (1960-2018) involves Hustedde’s time working at the Bettendorf Public Library in Bettendorf, Iowa. It is divided into two sub-series, Administrative and Library Programming. The Administrative sub-series contains information pertaining to the behind the scenes work at the library. This includes information about staff, reports, strategic plans, and internal messages within the institution.

The Library Programming sub-series features programs and activities Hedy planned and administered. Binders detailing the full process of gaining grant funding for unique library programs such as the Emily Dickenson Lives event and the Let’s Talk About It series. Also included in the Professional series is a binder of postcards, notes, and favorite quotes sent by authors Hustedde wrote to in conjunction with her work at the Bettendorf Public Library. As well as conferences that Hustedde participated in, and information on Hustedde’s retirement.

The Artifacts series (2002) contains buttons and nametags from her work and conferences, Emily Dickinson paraphernalia, and a National Poetry Month proclamation from 2002.

The Audio/Visual series (2000-2013) includes the video cassettes, compact discs, and audio cassettes pulled from binders and folders within the Professional series.
