Scope and Contents
The Lillian Brodkey papers date from 1935 to 2015 and measure 5 linear inches. The papers are arranged in three series: Biographical, Education and Employment, and Community Service.
The Biographical (1935-2012) series includes a family tree, a confirmation class dedication, and photocopies of membership cards and awards belonging to Lillian Brodkey and her husband. It also contains travel journals written by Brodkey and information about her sister, Mollie Schwartz.
The Education and Employment (1919-1988) series includes information about high school graduation, the Metropolitan Business College, Morningside College and optometry. The bulk of the material in this series pertains to Brodkey’s work as national educator for the American Zionist Youth Commission.
The Community Service (1958-2015) series contains papers about the National Safety Council, the Sioux City Lioness Club, the Congregation Beth Shalom of Sioux City, and the Sioux City Chapter of Hadassah. There are also copies of The Shaare Zion Messenger and The Jewish Community of Sioux City newsletters.
