From the Collection:

The interviews that make up Her Own Story: Ten Benton County Women were conducted in 1984, and the manuscript completed in 1992. The transcripts, manuscript, and related material together measure 10 linear inches. The papers are arranged in six series: Iowa Humanities Board, Correspondence, Transcripts, and Manuscript, Photographs, and Audio/Visual.

The Iowa Humanities Board series contains one application for funding from the Iowa Humanities Board in 1985.

The Correspondence series (1992) includes communications relating to the publication of the project.

The third series Transcripts (1984) contains transcripts of the original taped interviews.

The Manuscript series consists of the preliminary draft and the final copy of Her Own Story: Ten Benton County Women edited by Bettie McKenzie.

The Photographs and Audio/Visual series contain material donated by Julie Zimmer in 2010 and 2012.

The Photographs series contains photographs and negatives of each of the original ten interviewees. These images were used to decorate the cases for the interview’s digitized versions.

The Audio/Visual series contains digitized copies of each interview along with a CD containing photographs of each interviewee. It also includes a digitized version of the original 1986 slide/tape show “Her Own Story:’ Ten Benton County Women” and Mp3 files of each interview, edited transcripts, and photographs.
