Biographical / Historical
Adelia St. John Gates graduated from Genesee College in upstate New York and moved to Waterloo, Iowa, as a bride. Her husband John Cook Gates (1838-1917) practiced law in Waterloo with the Gates and Liffring law firm. Gates Park in Waterloo is named for this family.
