The diaries consist of brief entries concerning her daily life, including details of her social activities.  Apart from one diary written in her twenty-fourth year, the diaries were written sporadically from the time she was in her fifties until her eighties.

Ruby Buena Vista Crumley Mitchell was born in Rhodes, Iowa, on April 9, 1880. In 1900 she married and moved to Los Angeles.
