The Lois McIntyre Schutte papers date from 1991 to 1993 and measure 1 linear inch. The papers consist of two published memoirs, Hearts (1991) and Times Change (1993) written by Lois McIntyre Schutte.

In the 236 page memoir, Hearts (1991), Schutte describes life on a farm as a child during the Depression years and later as a farmwoman. The memoirs include descriptions of harvest seasons, her mother's resourceful cooking, and holiday gatherings. Schutte reflects on a life she describes as simple yet happy. Literary quotes and family pictures are reproduced throughout the memoir.

The Times Change (1993) memoir consists of an assortment of poems, quotes and pictures weaved throughout Schutte's recollections of growing up on an Iowa farm.

Biographical / Historical

Lois McIntyre Schutte, born in 1928 to Phyllis and Wallace McIntyre, grew up on Iowa farms as the oldest of three children. A native of Fayette County, Iowa, she married Leon R. Schutte of Fredericksburg in 1952. The couple raised a daughter, Christie Marilyn, who was born in 1957.
