The Scrapbooks series (1957-2009) is arranged by date and contains newspaper clippings, photographs, club yearbooks, and other material related to the club and to Walker and the Linn County area.

The Photographs series (1901-1994) includes photographs and photo albums consisting of club members at social events.

The Administrative series (1918-2011) includes reports, correspondence, and records of the club’s charitable contributions and scholarships.

The Club Activities series (1972-2009) consists of printed material pertaining to the club’s involvement with community programs such as Invent, Iowa! and the McGruff House Child Safety Program.

The Other Organizations series (1931-2009) includes General Federation Women’s Clubs (GFWC) manuals and includes scattered records of several other organizations in which Mary Meggers was involved, among them the Linn County Federated Women’s Clubs, Senior Citizens Friendship Circle, League of Women Voters, Dubuque Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, and Cedar Rapids Junior Women’s Club.

The Artifacts series (1931-2006) includes RARE nametags, an IFWC Bicentennial sticker, a pamphlet of recipes, and a promotional "Gifts of the Federation" present.

Biographical / Historical

Organized in 1899 and federated with the Iowa Federation of Women’s Clubs (IFWC) in 1920, the members of the RARE Club of Walker, Iowa, participated in intellectual pursuits and charitable events. The club was formed because the members saw a need to “encourage a high standard of knowledge in literary, musical, social and home life,” which included organizing and participating in social, philanthropic, and academic events.
