Biographical / Historical

Fortnightly clubs were founded in the 19th century as a place for women to engage in both social and intellectual development. Every year, the Creative Writing Department of the Fortnightly Club, of Washington, Iowa, published a booklet of articles written by its members. In 1989, the club created a booklet of creative writing to commemorate Washington, Iowa’s sesquicentennial.
