Biographical / Historical

Edna Pinkerton Hiron was born in Marshall County, Iowa on March 10, 1909. She lived on her family's farm near Quimby, Iowa in 1919. She graduated high school in 1927 and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls (now University of Northern Iowa). She taught grade school and married Lyl Rowe Hirons of Early, Iowa. She established The House of Poetry through which friends and herself could publish books of poetry. Her books include "Prayer Poem," "Wordsongs," "Children's Chatter," and "Beyond the Plow." She gave programs on poetry, inlcuding "Depicting History through Poetry," at local nursing homes.
