Biographical / Historical

Marie Hay Karbula was born on June 24, 1936, in her family's home "Coomber Place," a small farmstead four miles south of Otho, Iowa. She grew up with no indoor plumbing, heating, or running water. She recalls carrying in coal for the stove and any water the family needed to drink or bathe. She goes on to describe her life in detail, including her jobs, marriage, and parenthood. She moved to Webster, Iowa.
