Scope and Contents

The New Hampton High yearbook records date from 1903 to 1959 and measure 5 linear inches. The records are arranged in two series The Shadow and Team Pride, Team Spirit. Most of the collection is made up of original yearbooks from New Hampton Highschool in New Hampton, Iowa.

The Shadow series (1920-1941) contains ten years’ worth of New Hampton High yearbooks.

The Team Pride, Team Spirit series (1903-1959) includes an anthology of collected team photographs of High School sports teams from rural northeast Iowa.

Biographical / Historical

Hampton High’s senior yearbook, The Shadow, was run by students and printed once a year to mark the end of the school term. Including photographs of teachers, students, clubs, sports teams, and every-day activities, The Shadow shared what students had been participating in over the course of the year. Of note, the yearbooks spanning from 1920 to 1927 include a photograph of the girls’ basketball team. The image anthology, Team Pride, Team Spirit, also contains photographs from the first girls’ basketball teams in the northeast Iowa town of Lawler, whose students attended New Hampton High.
