Biographical / Historical
The National Organization for Women (NOW) Cedar Rapids Chapter evolved from a women’s caucus created in 1971 . In 1973, it became a local NOW chapter. NOW was founded in 1966 with a goal of “bringing women into full participation in the mainstream of American Society.” The chapter was involved in second wave feminist activism on issues such as abortion, gay rights, and the Equal Rights Amendment.
